Episode 183: Don't say sales - Hamburg diesel ban, Lotus CEO leaves, SMART CEO leaves, FCA's latest plan

Andrew is back in the land of the Internet, so can join Alan on this week's episode. During the show, the chaps discuss the Hamburg diesel ban, May new car registrations, Lotus's CEO is leaving, SMART's CEO is leaving, FCA's latest fantasy plan, Apple will allow third-party navigation apps, Matt Le Blanc to leave Top Gear, Most Instagrammed car brands and PetrolBlog is coming back.

FOLLOW UP: HAMBURG DIESEL BAN

The official Motoring Podcast twitter account had a conversation with Greg Kable about the implementation of the diesel ban in Hamburg, as it didn't appear to be running smoothly. However, there was a tight timescale between gaining approval to do this and actually doing it. But, as expected, this ban just pushes the problem out to other streets.

NEW CAR REGISTRATIONS MAY 2018

May's registration figures are up a smidgen, 3.4%, which can partly be accounted for by May 2017 being grim. To read more click on the SMMT article here.

LOTUS CEO LEAVES

Jean-Marc Gales has left his post as CEO of Lotus, with immediate effect. He is going to head up JD Classics and will be replaced by Feng Qingfeng who joined the Board when Geely invested in Lotus. To read more click on the Autocar article here.

SMART CEO LEAVES

Annette Winkler will be stepping down as CEO on 1 October. She will remain a Board member of Mercedes South Africa. To read more click on the Autocar article here.

FCA'S NEW 5-YEAR PLAN

Marchionne has revealed his latest 5-year plan, as he will have retired by the time the new one is revealed. We push past the "wow, look at this halo car we plan to build" and really pay attention to the new plan. To read more about it click on the Autocar article here. CAR PLAY TO ALLOW THIRD-PARTY NAV APPS

Apple announced at WWDC, that third-party navigation apps will be allowed on CarPlay. This will mean we can use Google Maps and Waze. To read more click on the Motoring Research article here.

LE BLANC TO LEAVE TOP GEAR
