FOLLOW UP: VW SEATBELT RECALL
Volkswagen will recall around 75,000 Polo, Ibiza and Arona cars, following investigation into an issue that could cause the rear centre seatbelt to open accidentally. VW continued to sell the vehicles whilst a solution was developed. To read more click the BBC News article here.
FOLLOW UP: CARLOS GHOSN FALL-OUT
In the week following the arrest of Carlos Ghosn, there have been many ‘thought-pieces’ written, with plenty echoing our thoughts on how odd this whole matter is. To read more click the Autonews article here and The Guardian article here.
Mitsubishi Motors has confirmed that they too have removed Ghosn as chairman of the company. A move that was to be expected following Nissan’s action. To read more click the BBC News article here.
France’s Finance Minister, Bruno Le Maire informed the press that as of Sunday the French government had not seen any of the evidence into the allegations against Ghosn. To read more click the Reuters article here.
CONSULTATION PERIOD FOR VAUXHALL PLANT
PSA has announced that a consultation period has begun at the Ellesmere Port factory of Vauxhall, with another cut in jobs. To read more click the Autocar article here.
GM CLOSING DOWN NORTH AMERICAN SITES
General Motors, who left Europe not so long ago, have continued on their downsizing moves. The announced that they will be closing 14 plants in North America, or “unallocating” them. Along with this there will be cut in salaried staff of up to 15%. To read more click here for the Jalopnik article.
GOVERNMENT REPORT INTO 20MPH ROADS
The Government has published a report into the effectiveness of 20mph road speed limits. The quick version is there is no real proof they have actually reduced the number of collisions nor casualties. However, most support them. To read more click the .Gov article here.
DOT INVESTS £100,000 IN ROAD SAFETY
In order to boost road safety, the Department of Transport is investing £100,000 in a raft of road safety measures. The proposal is that dash cam film can be submitted and used to report dangerous drivers, review of the Highway Code, evaluation into wider use of 20mph zones, cycle safety initiatives. NEW MOT EMISSION STANDARDS WORK
Emission test failures, during MOTs has almost doubled since their introduction in May 2018. If smoke of any colour is seen, or evidence of diesel particulate filter being tampered with are immediate ‘major faults’. To read more click the Motoring Research article here.
DRIVERLESS BUSES WITH DRIVERS TRIALING ACROSS FORTH ROAD BRIDGE
Scotland will be testing autonomous bus technology in 2019, it was announced. Five single-decker buses will be fitted out with technology to allow the vehicle to be run with a back up safety driver monitoring. They will run across the Forth Road Bridge. To read more click the BBC News article here.
