FOLLOW UP - VW REACHES 3.0L BUYBACK AGREEMENT
Volkswagen has reached an agreement in principle for fixing or buying back 80,000 3.0 litre diesels in California. Also, they will spend $225 million on mitigating NOx emissions. Added to that they will pay $25 million to California’s Air Resources Board and offer three electric models in order to sell 5000 annually. FOLLOW UP - VW FACE COMPENSATION SUIT IN GERMANY
In Germany Volkswagen is being taken to court because they have not met the promises they made regarding fixing cars, it is claimed. VW have denied this, stating that the fix is all the compensation owners need. This test case will be watched closely. To read more click here.

Oliver Schmidt, former US regulatory compliance office head, was arrested on Saturday. Senior VW executives haven’t attended CES nor the Detroit Motor Show this year. To read more click here.
FOLLOW UP - VW EXECUTIVE SENT TO JAIL IN SOUTH KOREA
The Volkswagen manager has been sentenced to 18 months in prison, for fudging type approval documents. There is still more happening in South Korea with regards to individuals and the company. To read more click here.

FOLLOW UP - PORSCHE WINS LEGAL BATTLE
Porsche has won an important legal battle against hedge funds when Germany’s highest civil court dismissed an appeal over damages for market manipulation when Porsche failed to take over all control of VW in 2008. FOLLOW UP - UBER STOPS TAKES SELF DRIVING TEST TO ARIZONA
Uber stopped it’s self-driving testing in San Fransisco after the authorities removed the registrations for the 16 vehicles. To read more click here. Uber then moved the cars to Arizona, to read more click here.
DECEMBER AND ANNUAL NEW CAR REGISTRATION FIGURES
December 2016 New Car Registrations were down on 2015 figures. however overall 2016 ended up 2.3% better off. The mainstream press seemed to get confused between new car “sales” and “registrations”. FCA INVESTIGATED AGAIN
FCA shifters are being investigated once again, this time on 1 million vehicles for roll-away complaints this time with their rotary shifters. Jaguar Land Rover are also under the spotlight with their version of the rotary shifter. To read more click here.
GM TO BE FINED IN CHINA
GM are accused of setting minimum prices for Cadillac, Chevrolet and Buick models. The fine from Chinese authorities is in the region of $29 million. To read more click here.
FORD CANCELS MEXICO PLANT
In the days following a threatening tweet by Trump Ford announced it would not be opening a new plant in Mexico for self-driving and electrified vehicles. Conclusions were obviously drawn that the decision was on the back of the threat, but many believe it was due to the location of key staff involved in making Ford an electrified vehicle company. FORD’S NEW DIRECTION
As mentioned in the last item, Ford announced their push into electrified and autonomous vehicles. There will be 13 electrified vehicles, which will include a small SUV with a range of 300 miles, Mustang Hybrid, two pursuit-rated police hybrid vehicles, Transit Hybrid, F-150 Hybrid and an autonomous hybrid.
