Episode 73 : We Don't Like Facts - VW Job Losses, Naughty Ecotricity, LA Motor Show, #Project2CV Update

This week Alan and Andrew are once again in the same room at the same time. They quickly get on with recording the show before the universe notices and ends as a consequence.

FOLLOW UP - 3.0 DIESEL ENGINE BUYBACK AND FIX

Volkswagen has reached an agreement for 80,000 3.0l diesel engined vehicles to be a mix of fixing and buying back depending on the exact engine. Compensation is still being negotiated and will add further costs. To read more click here.  

FOLLOW UP - WORKFORCE REDUCTION AGREED AT VW

Volkswagen has agreed, with unions, to reduce the workforce of the core VW brand by 23,000. This agreement includes no forced redundancies until 2025. The unions have done very well to get this agreement. To read more click here and also click here.

FOLLOW UP - GERMANY WILL NOT ASK VW FOR BACK-DATED TAX

The German authorities are expected to not request back-dated tax that has been lost as a result of #Dieselgate. The chaps wonder if this will set a precedent for other countries? To read more click here.

FOLLOW UP - SADIQ KAHN WANT £2.5M OFF VW

As a result of #Dieselgate Mayor of London, Sadiq Kahn, want £2.5 million from Volkswagen. Both Andrew and Alan are confused as to why such a claim can be made. The existing congestion charge is connected to CO2 emissions, whereas the 'defeat device' was installed for the US, where NOx was the worry. The level of CO2 emitted by VW cars hasn't changed. If anyone owes it is those who agreed the EU emission test. To read more click here.  

ECOTRICITY TOLD OFF

Ecotricity has been rapped on the knuckles following claims, following the introduction of charging at their points, that it is significantly cheaper to use them rather than fuel a comparable petrol or diesel vehicle. To read more click here.

FCA ENGINE INVESTIGATED

In France, the FIAT 500X diesel engine is being investigated for using a 'defeat device'. This is on the back of Germany also looking into it. To read more click here.

RON DENNIS STEPS DOWN

Ron Dennis is to leave his lead role at McLaren. Alan and Andrew discuss how far the company has come in his time at the top. To read more click here.

CAR PARK PRANGS

A whopping £1.4 billion is spent as a result of prangs in car parks. A large portion of the blame is levelled at the size of spaces compared to the size of cars. Andrew, though, does go on to complain about people's behaviour when driving around car parks. To read more click here.
